New $150K playground brings smiles to young patients at Fairfield Hospital
09 Sep 2025
Fairfield Hospital officially opened its brand-new playground for paediatric patients yesterday, made possible thanks to an AUD$150,000 donation from Mounties Group.
The new outdoor space, delivered by leading Australian-owned construction company Built, has upgraded the Fairfield Hospital Paediatric Ward’s previous playground, transforming it into a safe, modern and welcoming environment. Featuring state-of-the-art play equipment, fresh landscaping and a vibrant design, the playground now provides children and their families a vital place to relax, play and connect during their hospital stay, allowing them to swap the medicine for much-needed moments of fun.
Cara Egan, Acting General Manager of Fairfield Hospital, says the new playground is set to make a meaningful difference for young patients and their families.
“Hospital stays can be daunting for children and their loved ones. Having access to fun and light-filled spaces like this playground provides not just a distraction, but an important source of joy, comfort and connection. We are deeply grateful to Mounties Group for their generosity and commitment to supporting the wellbeing of our patients.”
David Paterson, CEO, Construction of Built, says the project is more than just a simple playground.
“With extensive experience delivering healthcare facilities across Australia, Built delivered this innovative and inclusive playground to meet the unique needs of children in a healthcare setting, prioritising accessibility, safety, and developmental outcomes. This carefully crafted space seamlessly blends practicality with playfulness, fostering exploration, imagination, and joy for children of all ages and abilities."
Steve Fitzpatrick, President of Mounties Group, says this project is just one example of Mounties Groups’ strong commitment to using its profits to back to its community.
“As a community-based organisation, Mounties Group understands the importance of supporting our local communities. Fairfield Hospital is at the heart of our region, and we’re proud to have been able to contribute to a space that will bring so much comfort and joy to children and their families when they might need it most.”
With Fairfield Hospital’s paediatric ward seeing an average of 2,500 admissions each year, the new playground is expected to benefit the children and families that temporarily call it home, offering them an uplifting space that supports both play and healing.
